In no way do I support the violent liberation philosophies of Malcolm X, however much can be gleaned from his thought process. I prefer the non-violent protests of Martin Luther King Jr, or even the passive aggressive persuasion administered by Ghandi and his followers. But I love how Malcolm X put it. His "pie in the sky" doctrine is fascinating. He never liked to be told that the pie would come to him over time. Instead he would rather go out and get it. The reasoning resonates with me.

On a beautiful day during the spring of 1820 a young boy entered a grove of trees with the desire to know. He was tired of others forcing beliefs and understandings on him. He sincerely sought heavens help in understanding how he could overcome shortcomings and eventually be saved in the kingdom of God. He took the admonition found in James chapter one verse five to heart. He lacked wisdom and decided to ask God-- the source of all knowledge. 

Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ appeared to Joseph Smith in a miraculous vision. Christ told Him the situation. Told him none of the Churches held the priesthood of God. It was lost centuries earlier due to persecution and internal corruption. Joseph Smith was to be the next Prophet. God is the same yesterday today and tomorrow, so it's no surprise He would work through a prophet as in days past. 

As part of this great restoration the angel Moroni came to Joseph and showed him an ancient record he would later translate and share with the world. This record-- the Book of Mormon-- holds the fullness of the gospel. Through it we can come to know our Savior more than any other book on the Earth. And again this should be no surprise because this is the pattern God has used since the beginning to dispense information to the earth. 

Think of the Old Testament prophet Ezekiel. An angel came to him (Ezekiel 1:28) and gave him a record to read (Ezekiel 2:1-3,9-10; 3:1-3). He was commanded to tell others about the message (Ezekiel 3:4). And the New Testament prophet John had a similar vision in Revelations chapter 10 verses 1-3 and 9-11. He saw an angel who gave him a book. He was told to prophesy to the whole world. So he did. So did Joseph. 

Joseph Smith is a Prophet of Jesus Christ. They work together to bring a marvelous work about just as in days past. The Book of Mormon is fruit of this great Prophet. I think of the words of Jesus Christ in Doctrine and Covenants section 122. When speaking to Joseph at a particularly hard time in his life He says "Thy God shall stand by thee forever and ever". I'll do the same.
