"Swoll"

We only had one casualty after the epic scatter ball tournament. Unfortunately, the man down happened to be my companion. As I relate the story please hum the orchestral version of Mormon Tab's famous "A Poor Way-fairing Stranger". It will help set the tone for the melancholy message.

Dodge balls flew all over the gym narrowly missing their targets as missionaries jumped and spun to avoid the hits. Amid the chaos I watched my companion run right down the middle of the gym in a desperate attempt to avoid confrontation. Two balls came sailing simultaneously in his direction. He ducked and spun trying to catch one of them. The first struck him in the lower leg-- the other his top left shoulder. His ankle got caught in the cross fire. The result swelling and a huge bruise.

But he overcame. My question was "so are you still going to be able to bike?" His response "I've done it before". That's what I'm talking about!

On one of our biking voyages we happened upon a lady that sparked intriguing conversation. We testified of the Book of Mormon and gave her a free copy to help her decide for herself whether it is of God or of man. She accepted and decided to go through the process of receiving personal revelation as to the authenticity of the work. On our way out we saw a Pastoral Certificate signifying the owner had authority from God to share His message and act in His name. The Certificate was acquired after a rigorous two week course. My question-- do you seriously think that's how the authority of God works?

No man can take this honor upon himself unless he is called of God as was Aaron (Hebrews 5:4). The pattern of this calling is found in Numbers 27:18 when Joshua is called by the laying on of hands. The pattern of laying on of hands continues through the New Testament. I like how Joseph Smith put it in the fifth article of faith, "a man must be called of God, by prophesy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof". Joseph Smith claims authority from Jesus Christ through the Apostle Peter by the laying on of hands. His fruits show us this is true.

Life is so good. I'm grateful for this unique opportunity to serve as a missionary.
